Luis Enrique spoke out to protect Ligue 1 after Paris Saint-Germain eliminated Arsenal from the UEFA Champions League, a victory showing the strength of the French team against Premier League representatives.
Although PSG faced difficulties in the semi-final second leg, they eventually overcome the British representative with a score of 2-1 to win the right to the final. This is a dramatic victory, especially when PSG lacks many key players.
Luis Enrique has rejected the regular criticism of the quality of Ligue 1, when this tournament was called “Farmers League”.
Answering the question of being proud when the top Premier League teams such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester City this season, Enrique does not hesitate to laugh and say: “Farmers’ tournament, right? We come from the farmer’s tournament!”
Even so, Enrique confirmed that PSG is enjoying global attention and feels proud of what the team has achieved.
“We are a young team, but the spirit, personality and how we play football is very beautiful,” Enrique said. He also emphasized the importance of PSG in the Champions League final:
“It is very important. It is especially important that we dreamed of a Champions League final. The first goal when coming to Paris was to create history and we were on the right track.”
Regarding the upcoming final against Inter Milan, Enrique did not appear subjective. He commented that this would be a difficult encounter, and said PSG would spend a lot of time analyzing the opponent.
