Arsenal’s new sports director, Andrea Berta, has made strong actions in the efforts from Real Madrid – the second ranked team La Liga – to recruit the center -back William Saliba. The Spanish Royal team is said to have identified Saliba as a top priority transfer target to strengthen the defense in the context that they are looking for quality additions.
According to information from the media, Real Madrid started his “campaign”, with Spain’s Marca depicting Saliba as a “chosen person” to shoulder the responsibility in their new defense center.
This interest became more and more obvious when Real Madrid needed to refresh the lower level, especially after Antonio Rudiger entered the later stage of his career and Eder Militao was in the process of recovery after the second most serious knee ligament injury.
However, Andrea Berta, who has a lot of experience in dealing with Real Madrid’s transfer strategies since working at Atletico Madrid, proved not flinching. According to the French L’équipe newspaper, the Italian director completely kept his calm before these public concerns.
Instead of being passive, Berta, who recovered his position from Edu, took the initiative to “initiate a new contract negotiation” with Saliba. Arsenal considered the French player as one of the “gem” by coach Mikel Arteta and hoped he would commit a long -term future with the club. Saliba’s current contract is still valid until 2027, but the Gunners want to ensure his service soon.
For his part, William Saliba also spoke about the future. On the eve of the Champions League match last month, he shared: “I am really happy here. I want to continue here. There is no [new contract negotiation], nothing to be in a hurry. I’m happy here.”
The fact that Saliba used to be an Arsenal fans from an early age was also a factor that made the London team more confident.
